6th TUB was led by the eminent female classical flautist Shantala Subramaniam. Born and raised in a musical family, her mellifluous rendition on the flute left everyone touched beyond words.
Later in the year, we hosted the Dancing Doctor from New York, the stupendous Sophia Salingaros with impromptu live musical support by Sudarshan Iyengar and Mohindar Ghantasala. The trio demonstrated how vital the collaboration between a dancer and her musicians are, and introduced the Belgian audience to basics of Bharatanatyam.
Balancing her career, studies, her uptake and passion for an artform much foreign to her roots, every adavu (a series of steps in Bharatanatyam) of hers was a delight to watch. Her perfect execution, grace and stage presence left the audience wanting more! A speechless evening that we hold dear in our memories.
