The year we decided to challenge ourselves: to invite renowned artists from Chennai – the cultural capital of India – to lead our annual TUB offerings and expose our audience to exceptional quality and expertise in rendering traditional concerts. Our artists were the much-acclaimed siblings “Mambalam sisters” – Vijayalakshmi & Chithra from Chennai. The pictures are testament to the true blissful evening enjoyed by the young and old alike.
We were also interviewed by a local radio show host from Brussels and sang bhajans on air!! As we left the studio still discussing the local cultural heritage that we all have grown up with, the host challenged us to demonstrate “a veedhi bhajanai” in Brussels (short bhajans that are sung on the road by practioners, as the community joins in the singing). We happily obliged and for a few mins that Brussels neighbourhood heard chants of Vittala vittala panduranga ringing through the nippy cold evening. What fun it was!
Covid times later in the year needed the much calming effect of soulful music – prompting us to host an online event for Navaratri, featuring 9 different upcoming artists from around the globe.
